Parent Leadership Initiative

In April 2014, BFDP  launched our new Parent Leadership Initiative (PLI), which empowers BFDP clients to use their experience with the child welfare system to help others. PLI participants develop advocacy skills, which they will use to advocate for individual families in the system and for systemic advocacy in the family court and child welfare systems.

The initiative began this April with the first of six monthly workshops, which gave our clients the opportunity to share their stories about their child welfare involvement. Future workshops will cover navigating the public assistance system, developing communication and advocacy skills, self-care, and resume writing.

The next session of the PLI will begin this fall.
